ABOUT SYDNEY

Sydney Barragan is an award-winning journalist and debut author based in Southern California. She is a Crime and Public Safety Reporter for Southern California News Group, covering breaking news, courts, crime, law enforcement, and community-impact stories across Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties for more than 13 publications.

A graduate of New York University with a B.A. in Journalism and Public Policy, Sydney brings a reporter’s discipline and a storyteller’s eye to her work. Her reporting has earned awards and national republication, with a focus on stories shaped by crime, accountability, consequence, and the people living behind the headlines.

Sydney is the author of the completed narrative nonfiction manuscript Malice Ignited, which reconstructs the extraordinary criminal campaign that targeted her family in Southern California in the early 1980s. Drawing on her experience as a crime reporter and her unique position inside the story, she brings together an extensive historical record with the experiences of the people who lived through it.

Born and raised in Orange County, California, Sydney has been to Disneyland more times than she can count but still cannot surf. When she is not on deadline, she is usually watching a Dodgers game or looking for a good latte.
